Essay:
Working or travelling to other countries is said to be the only motive for people to learn foreign languages. While I could name some grounds to justify this view, I would agree with those who contend that there are other inspirations for people to learn different languages.
The ability to overcome language barrier is compulsory for those having chances to work or travel to foreign countries. The inability to communicate with the natives could impede their jobs’ accomplishment or address their problems while travelling. For example, a supervisor could not explain his ideas to foreign subordinates so that they can properly act at his wills or tourists might not be able to seek for help if their belongings unfortunately get stolen. With the obstacles mentioned, people often find it utmost necessary to study a different speech before going out of their countries.
However, I think there are other intentions of people who sign up for language classes. For those who want to work in multinational companies which have subsidiaries within their country or companies that do business with foreign corporations, learning foreign languages would increase their chances of admission so that they might get high salaries. Besides, studying foreign languages could help people maximumly enjoy artistic works of other nations such as music, movies or novels. American movies, such as hilarious genre, could be more satisfactory if viewers have greater level of English understanding rather than watching them with translated subtitles or vocal dubbing.
To conclude, while it is true that in order to get along well with other countries’ life, people have to study that nation’s language, the local jobs that pay decently or foreign works of art, in my opinion, could also make people interested in studying different speeches.
