IELTS Writing Task 1: The graph below gives information about car ownership in Britain from 1971 to 2007.

The graph illustrates changes in the percentage of British household car ownership between 1971 and 2007.

As can be seen from the graph, the number of car owners increased during the period. In particular, Britain household without car declined significantly while that with two cars rose sharply.

In 1971, almost half of all British households did not have a car, around 44% owned only one car and approximately 8% had two cars. Meanwhile, it was uncommon for families to own three or more cars, only around 2% of households falling into this category.

Over the next 36 years, there were significant variations in the car ownership of British families. While the percentage of households without car decreased almost a half as much as it was in 1971, the percentage of families having two cars grew dramatically and reached a high record of over 25% at the end of the period. Although there was little change in the proportion of one-car households, this category was the most common among the four types during the period. The percentage of families owning three or more cars, in the meantime, experienced a steadily increase to around 8%.
