The given line graph compares US government expenditure in terms of five sides between 1980 and 2008.

In general, there were significant changes in the amount of money spent on fields which were shown on the graph. It can be seen that Health researching was always studied most by the US government through the 24-year period.

It is noticeable that at the beginning of the period, the largest amount of money spent on Health researching with around $8 billion, which was followed by over $7 billion in that of Other. The lowest figure for national expenditure was in General Science with approximately $3 billion, while that of Space and Energy were $6 billion and $5 billion, respectively. The period from 1984 to 2000 witnessed an increase in the amount of money expended into Health, Space and Other from around $7.5, 6, 8 billion to $17, 8, 8 billion, respectively. In contrast, the figure for General Science and Energy saw a fluctuation but reached to $5 billion in 2000.

In the next 8 years, the US government spent less money on Health and Other which declined to $18 and $5 billion, respectively. However, there was a slight increase to over $9 and $8 billion in expenditure into Space and Energy researching in 2008, in sequence. Besides, the amount of money spent on General Science remained unstable at $5 billion between 2000 and 2008.
