Western countries are well known as the forefront of higher education today. Therefore, many Asean students decide to study abroad after graduating from high school in their home town. Howeve, there are some controversies whether learning abroad is beneficial or not for students. This essay now will examine some advantages as well as disavantages of learning overseas.
Fisrt of all, it is believed that studying abroad can benefit students' job prospect. To illustrate, Western countries have a high quality of education system. They prioritize experience and soft skills rather than theory. Moreover, the university degrees that graduates have are internationally recognized. Therefore, there will be more opportunities for students to find an appropriate jobs in many international companies.
Secondly, learning overseas can economically benefit students. To explain, it cannot be denied that the tuition fees of Western universities are high, however, students might receive more in long term with their investment. In time of globalization, graduates from international universities wil have more chances to promote their positions than others and also have higher salaries.
In contrast, studying abroad can affect students' behavior negatively. The culture of Eastern countries are different from the Western ones, Western people have open-mind and more freedom. Teenagers are not controlled by their parents when they turn 18, then they live independently. Although this life style can help Eastern students become mature and overcome obstacle by themselves, some of them do not have enough knowledge to stay away from social evils.
Secondly, there are now more international companies in Asean countries and RMIT is an example. Students can study in an international environment in their hometown without moving to another strange place. Therefore, if they need help from their parents, they are always willing to do. In addition, it is also easier for parents to take care of their children as well as assure that their students are safe.
In conclusion, there are different perspectives on studying abroad. Students and their family need to consider both benefits and disadvantages of this issue before making a decision.
