The bar chart illustrates how many men and women participated in the Olympics, whereas the line graph gives information on the number of Olympics athletes from 1924 to 2012.

 

Overall, the number of participants entering the Olympics increased considerably since it began. In addition, there were always more men than women athletes, however, the gap narrowed significantly as the number of female participants witnessed a rapid ride throughout the years.

 

According to the bar chart, there were few women taking part in the game, yet in 1952, the figure for women athletes rose to about 500. Then it stood at around 1500 in 1984 before skyrocketing to nearly 5000 in 2012. In contrast, the figure for males was much higher, at 3000 in the first year and continued to increase, reaching its peak of nearly 6000 in 2012.

 

In terms of the line graph, approximately 3500 people participated in the first Olympics. This number experienced a steady rise to more than 6000 in 1984. The most dramatic increase occurred between 1984 and 2012 when the figure climbed by 5500, ending at less than 11500.
