The graph shows in percentage terms the changing patterns of domestic access to four modern technologies in homes in the UK between 1996 to 2002. The general trend across technologies is upward, but they do not have the same speed. The access rate of home computer rose gradually from under 30% in 1996 to 55% in 2002. Meanwhile, the popularity of mobile phones experienced much more rapid growth, starting from under 20% in 1996, though there were fluctuations in its increment, it ended up the year of 2002 with 70%.
CD player seems to be old technology. Its access rate is highest among technologies and kept growing steadily from approximately 60% to over 80% during all six years. By contrast, the internet was newly introduced to this analysis in 1998. Despite that fact, there was a significant increase in its use in the UK from 10% to nearly 50% in 2002.
The rise of the internet and mobile phones is remarkable. They will replace CD players to be the most popular technology soon.
