Topic: Some people think that teachers should be responsible for teaching students how to judge right and wrong and how to behave well. Some say that teachers should only teach students about academic subjects. Discuss both views and give your opinion
Nowadays, an increasing number of people are concerned about the purposes that education serves. Some people state that teacher should be responsible for teaching student how to distinguish between right and wrong to raise well-behaved individuals; others believe that education only focuses academic subjects. I mainly agree with the former view for the following reasons.
First, it is obvious that for most student, the purpose of learning is to obtain knowledge and activities which will enable them to become mature. This kind of training may help students improve their moral standard, while building their communication and social skills. So, schools, as service providers, have to give top priority to these customers’ real needs.
Moreover, focusing on that skills can benefit the education itself. For example, most employers looking for employees who has specific skills for work. If a school can quickly respond, not only will its graduates be more competitive in the near future, but the school also keep pace with the modern development and move forward.
That is not to say that teacher should not pay attention to academic subjects.
Students are interested in theoretical knowledge such as math or physics, and they will later become scientist or scholars who will make greater contribution to our society. But unfortunately, these people are few.
In conclusion, teachers should provide most students with social skills, thereby making society function well. Meanwhile, we should not ignore the important of academic subjects are undertaking. By doing so, we can ensure that schools maintain dynamic and sustainable development.
