The graph compares American average spending by mobile phone and landline phone services between 2001 and 2010

It is clear that while mobile expenditures increased exponentially, spending on residential phones reduced steadily in a period of 10 years. The year 2016 marks the points at which expenditure on cell phone overtook that on landline phone services.

In 2001, US consumers spend an average of nearly $700 on residental phone services seach year, compared to only about $200 on mobile phone services. Over the next 5 years, average yearly spending on mobile phone rose by approximately $300. By contrast, expenditure on landline had decreased trend and reached nearly $200.

In the year 2006, US consumers paid out the same amount of money on both types of phone serivces, spending over $500 on each. By 2010, spending on cell phones rose by around $750, while the figure for expenditure on landlilne phone services had fell by nearly $400.
