Question

Topic: Some belive museums should entertain people, while others belive their purpose is to educate. Discuss bothe view and give your opinion.

Answer:

Everything has different effects to different types of viewers and museum is naturally not an exception. For some people, museums are interesting places when they want to relax. Some others inversely claim that these constructions solely have educational purpose. The two sides of opinion will be analyzed before a logical conclusion is drawn.

 

Starting with the first argument, it is easy to see that a museum can bring joy to people. For instance, many people feel excited going to Vietnam Museum of Ethnology to observe, contemplate and take several photographs of traditional sets of ethnic minority clothes, which are very unique and original. The new styles with colorful and garish patterns always bring people into curious and fantastic moods so that they can make their life worth living. Therefore, going to museum to refresh and unwind is likely to be an ideal choice.

 

On the other hand, museums are more considered to be an instructive sites, especially for children and history learner. The army museums play a good example here. They are perfect for history lessons in which students have chance to learn about glorious past of the country and raise their awareness of important historical events and landmarks. Thus, teaching is also an obvious role of museums.

 

In summary, both arguments relating to the aim of museums are virtally reasonable. However, when being compared, the function of constructing is felt to better satisfy public than entertaining. In a foreseeable future, human beings are expected to make full use of the museums to widen their knowledge.

Museum is place where historical objects are exhibited and events happened in the past are demonstrated. Besides providing people valuable history knowledge, museum also gives its visitors enjoyable time. Entertaining activities in modern museums are not conflict to its ultimate education purpose. Indeed, these activities can greatly support museum’s main function.

Firstly, entertaining activities help museum attract a greater amount of visitors. People with limited spare time are usually prone to entertaining destinations when deciding places to go out. If people know visiting museums can be fun, they would possibly choose historical exhibitions over concerts or movie theaters. Especially, children will undoubtedly favor museums with interesting agenda. Thus, by adding up some entertaining features to its exhibition, museum have more customers from all ages and greatly increase its revenue.

In addition to the quantity of visitors, entertaining activities also improve the quality of time spent at museums. Exhibition can provide visitors movies about the past or organize games about historical person for children. Moreover, museums managers can reorganize their place as a theme park to attract young people. These activities not only interest people but also simplify history lessons and make them more enjoyable. As visitors will not forget the good time they spent at museums, they will not forget valuable knowledge they had there. For conclusion, in contrast to argument that modern museum concern too much about entertaining visitors, these interesting features really contribute to museum’s main purpose: to educate people. Therefore, museum managers should focus on both two aspects to best serve the society.
