Topic: The older generations tend to have very traditional ideas about how people should live, think and behave. However, some people believe that these ideas are not helpful in preparing younger generations for modern life.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this view?
There are some opinions that traditional ideas which are believed by the elderly can be irrelevant with the demand of young generations. While I agree that some traditional points of view are out-to-date, I actually think that they still have been valuable for the young to have better lives in the modern society.
On the on hand, it is obvious that elderly people sometimes have opinions which are less useful and suitable for the young to apply for their lives in recent time. In the past, for instance, many people always had a thirst for giving birth male boys, who can maintain the continuity of a family line. But nowadays, there are significantly necessary to have an equal insight between female birth and male birth because society needs have dismissal of sexual discrimination. Furthermore, in the previous period, some elderly people believed that women must be a housewife to take care of children and concern about household work, which is considered to be a reason that only men have the right to seek a job and pursue their careers. However, today, there are a significant number of women who are so talented and intellectual in many fields and the number of women leaders and staff is becoming increasing quickly. This is resulted from a fact that women should be equal alongside men to go to work and pursue their own career success.
On the other hand, it is widely believed that some traditional viewpoints of previous generations are still valuable and can be applicable to the modern world. For example, in Vietnam, after giving a birth many women will be looked after and taken recovery by some traditional methods used for many years ago. The facts show that these measures are so efficient and effective due to the quick recovery of mothers and the well-being of babies. Not stopping at this point, many characteristics of the elderly are likely to be essential for the young to learn and apply such as politeness and good manners. As far as I am concerned in this modern society, there are a considerable proportion of young people who have some bad habits and negative lifestyle due to the shortage of carefulness and soft skills’ training. Therefore, it can be considered that some positive qualifications of the previous generation should be learn by the younger one.
In conclusion, I reaffirm that we should not underestimate the traditional opinions of the elderly, however, the young need to have classification to learn the most feasible and proper viewpoints. This can bring the young essential skills and awareness to have better standards of living.
