Traffic congestion is becoming a huge problem for many major cities. Discuss the problems and Suggest some measures that could be taken to reduce traffic in big cities.

In the modern city life, as the world's population rises, as well as vehicles are becoming easier to afford, heavy traffic congestions have become a worldwide problem. Not only drivers feel exhausted from waiting for long, but pedestrians also dislike the scene.

TRaffic congestions occur due to many reasons. It is mainly caused by commuters travelling to work or school. During rush hours, it becomes more serious as people rush home from work and to take their kids home. Another reason for traffic jam is the amount of vehicles that participates in the flow of traffic. According to a recent survey, each four-member-family averagely own 2 cars and a motorcycle. People now tend to travel alone, refusing to use public transportations like buses and undergrounds. This is a great waste to people who buy a car with four seats but use one seat only. Traffic jams is also one of the reason why cities are polluted, by gas and fumes. Moreover, residential areas are usually crowded because of the people going in and out at the same time.

To solve this problem, some great ideas have been given out. One of the most likely to be chose is to encourage people to travel by public transportations. The government should promote the uses of trains and buses, and also try to give discounts or benefits for those who travel by public vehicles. People whose work place are near should be recommended to walk.

Another method is to impose tax on vehicles, or charge extra fees for cars and other heavy transports. This will discourage people from driving in a not- fully- loaded car. Also, this tax could be used to make new roads or lanes, supposedly highways.

Finally, rearranging work hour and school time is believed to be useful enough to untie knots of jams in front of schools, office buildings and residential areas. Though this plan might seem unbelievable, gorvernments should try doing so. To the concerns of parents who take their child to school, it is suggested that schools should have private buses which go through the city at school time, while at work time, only parents are the one moving.

To conclude, I would like to state that, although these measures do well, it is best that citizens know how to consider the best way to avoid traffic congestions.
