Today, the high sales of popular consumer goods reflect the power of advertising and not the real needs of the society in which they are sold.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

The issues of whether the high number of common goods is sold by helping from advertisement and it is not reflect the real social needs or not remains controversial. While Some people believe that advertising is not only factor to make increasing sale of goods. In my opinion, I partly agree this statement.

There are several evidences that the consumption of popular merchandise increase due to effect of advertisement rather than real needs. The first evidence is that there are many advertising programs which use some well-known people as representative of popular brands. In consequence, having numerous residents tend to buy products that their famous people advertises although they do not need it. For example, coca-cola company is known as successful company in brand advertising with a great deal of advertisement clips. Secondly, consumer is also affected by trend of consumption. That means people may buy commodity just because others buy it and they also believe that the products have good quality.

Besides, I do not completely agree that the goods are bought rapidly because of impact of advertisement instead of true demand of society for various reasons. Firstly, purchase of merchandise is demand of people, it do not depend on advertisement. Because advertisement is just one of the means to the companies introduce their brands to markets. In addition, the finance of consumers is important factor which adjust their consciousness of purchases. They will base on category, price, and durability of goods to buy instead of just seeing on advertising.

In conclusion, in present society, consumer behavior are much influenced by advertisement on buying products but the high sale of these products are not completely reflections of the social demands.
