It is a controversial idea that besides making profits, companies should bear the responsibility for society. In my opinion, while generating as much money as possible is one of the top priorities of each enterprise, I agree that they should share their interests and efforts with the whole society.
Firstly, as a motivation for economic development, all the companies should run a business plan which produces profits at most. The better these firms control their own business, the more taxes they have to pay for the government. As a result, national budget will be benefited with large amount of income and public services such as hospitals, schools and transportation can enjoy greater investment to improve the residents’ life quality. Secondly, while unemployment rate is at alarming situation, the substantial growth of enterprises is possibly the last resort for government. Along with the expansion of firms, more opportunities for employment will be created within the community.
On the other hand, it is the whole society that every business should serve for, at last. They cannot grow their own profits without considering the whole view and future of all mankinds. For sustainable development, companies have to adapt new environmentally-friendly technologies to protect the Earth’s natural resources and purity. Secondly, a business could not exist in a long time without intellectual and skillful workforce. Big corporations should contribute to the country’s education through various donations or financial scholarships. Consequently, there will be more productive staffs working for them. For example, big names in Vietnam such as Vinamilk or Uniliver are providing a wide range of supports for students to help them get through universities.
In conclusion, I argue that besides maximising profits, all the businesses should take the responsibility with the whole society as their own mission statement.
