The bar chart illustrates the rates of unemployment women in four different nations of the UK, namely England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland between 2013 and 2014.

Overall, it is clear that while the number of women without work in England, Wales and Northern Ireland showed an upward trend, a reverse pattern could be seen in that in Scotland.

In 2013, the rate of unemployment women in England held the lion’s share, at 6.8%, followed by its counterpart – in Wales with 5.4%. Both figures experienced a modest drop by 0.3% and 0.4% respectively at the end of the survey. Such similarity can be seen in the percentage of women who are out of work in Northern Ireland. In 2013 this figure accounted for 5.6% and it then witnessed a slight fall by 1%, making it become the bottom position.

By contrast, in the year 2013, the proportion of unemployed Scottish women held the runner up of 6.1% before indicating a considerable increase to overtake that of English jobless women as the highest unemployment figure (6.7%) a year later.
