The table below shows how the percentage of British adults who use the Internet changed

over a five year period. Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information shown below.

Percentage of adults in Great Britain who have used the Internet for 3 months before being interviewed.

The table illustrates a number of clear differences between various age groups in Great Britain in terms of the Internet usage throughout a five-year period from 2002. Overall, the figure of British users increased gradually, and a much larger proportion of younger people had access to the Internet than the older.

In the period from 2000 to 2002, the two youngest age groups experienced significant growth in the Internet usage, from 70% to 85% with the 16 to 24 year olds and from 53% to 73% with the 25 to 44 year olds. After improving gradually, the former reached a peak at 90% in 2004 and decline slightly to 87% in 2005, whist the latter experienced no diminish and ultimately accounted for 81% in 2005.

The 45 to 54 year olds and the oldest Internet users comprised a half and a third of total respectively. Both figures rose noticeably around 10%, followed by a gentle increase in two age groups. In the remainder, the 45 to 54 year olds witnessed a substantial jump in the Internet usage to 75% in 2005, while that of the last group also climbed, although more slightly, to over 50% in 2005.
