The table compares average distance in miles by modes of travel  In England in 1985 and 2000.
It is clear that average distance in miles travelled by all modes grows up considerably.  While the average distance by walking,  bicycle and local bus has a slight decrease,  the rest of moles as the data outline have trend to increase dramatically
Out of 8 modes , there are only 3 modes which have a fall in average distance in 15 years,  from 1985 to 2000 , including : walking,  bicycle,  local bus.  In these 3 modes,  the figure for local bus 's  average distance is noticeably higher than walking and bicycle,  429 miles travelled in 1985. However,  in 2000, it was decreased dramatically,  nearly a half.  Average distance for walking and bicycle just decline slightly from 255 to 237 and from 51 to 41. Besides, bicycle became the mode which had lowest distance in miles in 2000 instead of taxi.
There are modes of travel which have average distance going up : car,  long distance bus,  train,  taxi and other.  It is easy to realize that car has highest average distance , and it remain thee higher position from 3199 in 1985 to 4806 in 2000. In addition, from the mode which has lowest distance  travelled,  13 miles in 1985, taxi  got over lowest position and got 42 miles in 2000.
