IELTS Writing Task 1: line graph exercise

The graph below shows UK acid rain emissions, measured in millions of tonnes, from four different sectors between 1990 and 2007.

 

The line graph compares four distinct sectors in term of the amount of acid rain emissions in Britain from 1990 to 2007.

Overall, it is evident that there was a decreasing trend in the amount of rain in all sectors over a 17-year period. The most dramatic change can be seen in Electricity, Gas and Water Supply.

From 1991 to 1994, the amount of rain remained plateau at around 2 million tonnes and 0.75 million tonnes for other industries and domestic respectively. Then, the figures went down stably from 2.1 million tonnes to 1.3 million tonnes in other industries between 1995 and 2007. Likewise, the amount of acid rain emissions in Domestic saw a gradually decline by 0.2 million tonnes by the year 2007.

Emissions of Electricity, Gas and Water Supply fall dramatically from 3.3 million tonnes to 1.3 million tonnes between 1990 and 1997. In contrast, there was a slight variation in Transport and communication around 0.7 million tonnes over the same period. Over the 10 years after 1997, the amount of emissions fluctuated significantly and dropped by 0.5 million tonnes in Electricity, Gas and Water Supply. The emissions in Transport and communication reached a peak at 1 million tonnes in 2005; however, the amount began to decrease slowly to 0.7 in 2007.
