Question

Some people say that the only reason for learning a foreign language is in order to travel to or work in a foreign country. Others say that these are not the only reasons why someone should learn a foreign language.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion. Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Some people concern that the sole purposes for studying a new language is to have a trip or seek for employment in another country. Others say that these are not the main motives explaining why someone ought to learn a foreign language. From my point of view, I completely agree that there are more than two factors above about the reason of studying a different language.

It is sensible that people learning a language besides the mother tongue is for their own interests. For people who express a strong preference for Korean programmes such as drama films, comedy channels, etc; hence, they possibly have motivation to study Korean language. Not to mention to the situation that in the university, most students need to make scientific researches. And the documents are usually written in English and Spanish, which are the two most popular languages all over the world. Understanding a widely known language will help students read international reference materials.

On the other hand, with people whose goals are travelling, there are some daily activities which need they will need the language of the country that they are visiting. The big problem people might face if they are at a new country is the direction. People easily get lost. In addition to their direction losing, a few people have difficulties in ordering food since the menu of some restaurants do not provide the English name of the food. Consequently, you have to socialize with the local people to ask for help. Regarding to people who want to have a job in a foreign country, the reasonable explanation is about the international working environment. Employees can be paid a decent salary than those who work in a national workplace.  Furthermore, people who wish to pursue a higher education or learn about the outer-space can achieve their dreams by going to America, United Kingdom or other developed nations for instance.

All in all, I wholly think that existing many reasons why people love studying a foreign language.

Thật ra những ngôn ngữ nhiều người nói nhất thế giới theo thứ tự từ cao đến thấp là Trung Quốc, Tây Ban Nha, tiếng Anh.

Tiếp theo những ngôn ngữ quyền lực nhất thế giới theo thứ tự từ cao đến thấp là Tiếng Anh, tiếng Trung Quốc phổ thông, tiếng Pháp, tiếng Tây Ban Nha.

Nhưng phần đưa ra ví dụ tiếng Anh và tiếng Tây Ban Nha thì khá giống.
