Some people say cheap air travel is good because it enables ordinary people to travel. While others argue that it is bad for the environment. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
It is true that the rise of low-cost airlines has become quite controversial these day. While it is can be argued that economical air travel offers traveling opportunities to common people, I believe that cheap flights are detrimental for the environment.
Due to the vigorous development of aviation, airways constantly continue to expand their market by providing low-cost air carrier for low-income passengers. The affordable airfare may be an ideal choice in line with cost-effectiveness for ordinary people to travel and enjoy the advantages of air travel, such as long distance, time-saving or fast speed and so forth. Travel expenses will no longer be viewed as a huge barrier to low-income class and air travel shall be more accessible than ever. More significantly, economical air travel can be praised for wiping out the unfair distinction between ordinary people and the upper class, which is the only ones able to fly previously.
Despite the above arguments, I believe that low-cost flights are undeniably contributing to the environmental degradation. Scientific studies have shown that although aviation is a relatively small industry, it has a disproportionately large impact on the global warming because of the greenhouse gas emissions and exhaust fumes released from jet engines at high-altitude. The increase in demand for cheap air travel inevitably results in high frequencies of airlines that are associated with environmental concerns. Futhermore, deforestation and river clearance to offer space for airport expansion or news airports still stir deep public concerns among its ecological influences. Therefore, low-cost air carriers certainly put the national administration under pressures to balance its benefits against the environmental effect.
In conclusion, it seems to me that the economical air travel may be beneficial for the working class in the short term, but in the long term it would have an extremely negative impact on the environment.
