Some people believe that school children should not be given homework by their teachers, whereas others argue that homework plays an important role in the education of children. Discuss both of these views and give your own opinion.
Many are of the view that students should be under no obligation to do homework, while others opine that homework serves as an essential part of children's education. From my perspective, though the former has its validity, I would approve of those advocating the importance of homework.
On the one hand, children should not be put under overwhelming pressure on doing homework. As young children, especially in Asian cultures, are usually expected to meet their parents’ expectations to gain excellent marks at school, they are gradually deprived of resting and playing with their friends to handle the assignments. This causes children to feel pressed under a high workload and literally results in mental illnesses such as being afraid of going to school and lacking self-confidence. Additionally, extracurricular should be attached to importance among school children because, besides studying, children should foster both their communication skills and physical activities rather than learning from papers.
On the other hand, homework has played an integral role in children’s education. First, assignment helps students revise lessons after class. Revision is an essential part in studying because it helps students comprehend the lecture more thoroughly, thus, increasing their productivity and preciseness when sitting examinations. In Vietnam, students are observed to gain low scores solely because of not going over their lessons and not having a comprehensive understanding of the questions and lose marks easily. Furthermore, assignment after school is an effective way to apply theoretical lectures in practical life, which is most necessary with scientific subjects such as Chemistry, Physics, and Biology. This would make studying procedure more efficient and intriguing as students could understand its cruciality in daily life.
In conclusion, some advocate that children should not be given homework, I am convinced that assignments act as a precursor of studying efficiently.
