People should follow the customs and traditions when people start to live in a new coutry. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

To a certain extent I agree that immigrants to a foreign country should adapt to local social and moral norms. However, I believe that there are some circumstances when following the host country’s traditional practices is not encouraged.

On the one hand, compliance with the nation’s traditional activities can eradicate the worry off social conflicts and help newcomers advoid the sense of isolation. It is likely that the more fastly people can adjust to local lifestyle, the more easily they can make friend with native residents. For example, the Vietnamese don’t celebrate the Christmas Party officially in the welcome of the New Year. But when they reside a new life in England, the Christmas Holiday is a golden chance for them to get closer to their neighbours. This may lead to a more rapid integration and mutual understanding in the near future.

On the other hand, I think that adhering to new customs and traditions should be taken into consideration when it comes to long – standing values and religious matters. It is a common knowledge that every religions has its taboo and regulations that devotees have to comly with. For instance, all Muslim women in Bangladesh wear a “hijab” – a type of headscarf as a symbol of their creed. So, if a girl leaves her country for American for study, she should get respects from the Americans for her outfit since the headscarf is her indispensable accessory.

In conclusion, while I can accept that the time for intergration into a new community can be shortened by adaption to their conventions, I also believe that individuals had better keep their core values stay intact to preserve the human being’s culture diversity.
