Overall, the amount of money spent on books in Germany and Italy, both rates fluctuate dramatically this period, while the amout of money spent on books is France and Austria showed steady but significant rise over period.
Germany’s numbers was the highest among these four countries. It rose from 80 million in 1995 to 90 million in 1999. Next, it fail above 80 million before increasing to just under 100 million in 2005. In the mean time, Italy’s number hovered around 50 million in 1999. In 2001, just under 60 million and continued with gradual increased to just above 60 million.
In 1995 the spending money on books of France and Austria were nearly 60 millon and 30 millon respectively. France’s number increased sharply throughout the period, reaching just under 80 million in 2005. Austria’s number grew to 40 million and then, remained steady until 2001. During 2001- 2003 it experienced a rapid surge to more than 60 million and cotinued with gradual increase to just above 70 million in 2005.
