• Task 1: The line graph shows the percentage of New Zealand’s population from 1950 to 2050. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

• The line graph compares the proportion of people in different age groups in New Zealand between 1950 to 2050.

  Overall, the percentage of older people aged 25 to over 65 fluctuated and decreased over the period shown, while the proportion of the youngest age group witnessed a gradual increase.

  In 1950, 60% of New Zealand's population was over 65 years old. The figures for age groups 38 to 45 and 25 to 37 were lower, at about 25% and 21% respectively. The age group of 0 to 14 ones stood at just 5%. In 2050, the percentage of people aged 0 to 14 years old will continually rise to 20% while the other three groups will remain stable and steadily fall.

  By 1990, the proportion of the eldest age group was highest at 70%. The figure for people aged 38 to 45 peaked at 48% before falling and staying the same from 2000. The percentage of age group 25 to 37 also remained consistent to 2000 and then start to fall. As a result, the rate of the youngest age group began to rise and took over the third rank in 2000.
