The table shows the data on the number of tourists visiting six different World Heritage sites in Australia in three years 1996, 1998 and 2000.

Overall, it is clear that Great Barrier Reef is the destination that has the highest statistic of visitors, while the smallest number recorded for Macquarie Island during a period of time. In addition, the figures for Great Barrier Reef, Blue Mountains and Tasmania Wilderness experienced an increase from 1996 to 2000, whereas there was a noticeable fall in the number of visitors to Central Eastern Rainforest Reserve and Shark Bay, and a fluctuation in the statistic for Macquarie Island at the same period of time.

In 2006, Great Barrier Reef welcomed 1,670,000 tourists and this number rose dramatically and topped out at 3,200,000 tourists in 2000. Meanwhile, a minimal growth in the quantity of visitors to Blue Mountains and Tasmania Wilderness was undergone from 526,000 and 450,000 people to 581,000 and 483,000 people respectively between 1996 and 2000.

By contrast, the period from 1996 to 2000 saw a marked decrease in visitor statistics for Central Eastern Rainforest Reserve and Shark Bay from 810,000 and 84,000 tourists to 770,000 and 89,000 tourists respectively. At the same time, the number of people visiting Macquarie Island varied between 310 and 330 visitors.
