Given is the line graph illustrating the sum of commodity commuted by 4 modes namely road, water, rail, pipeline in the Uk measured by million tonnes at 29 years interval, starting in 1974.

A glance at the diagram reveals pronounced upward trends of the goods’ amounts shipped by 3 first means of transport in contrast to the figure for rail.

At the starting point, of the road group, over 65 million tonnes transported via water and rail, while the figure for the pipeline group stood at somewhat 3 million tonnes. During the following years, the trends experienced some fluctuations for all 4 means of transport. Although the quantities mostly went up, the rail one enjoyed a different tendency.

In 2002, the figure for water group ended up totaling around 60 million tonnes which was three-fifth road one while the quantity for rail group remained as in 1974 and with pipeline- still stayed least.
