The given graph illustrates the amounts of goods transported by four distinctive means of transports in the UK in a 28-year period from 1974 to 2002. Overall, the figure for these transportations ended up with an increase in the quantities of properties comparing with the initial numbers. Another noticeable point is that road was the favorable mode of transport while the pipeline was the least throughout the period

In 1974, more than 70 million tonnes of goods were transported by roadway while around 40 million was transported via water and rail transportations. In the following years, roadway and railway shared a similar trend where both of these means of transports fluctuated considerably before reached their peaks at around 100 million and 41 million tonnes in 2002, respectively. As regards to water transportation, there was an increase in the number of goods transported before it declined minimally to slightly 55 million in 1998. At the end of the period, this amount jumped again to approximately 63 million tonnes.

With respect to pipeline transportation, it accounted for the lowest in 1974 at around 5 million tonnes. After that, the amount rose markedly to just over 20 million in 1995 and remained unchanged until the end of the period.
