The line graph demonstrates how many items were delivered by four different categories of transport namely road, rail, water and pipeline in the United Kingdom from 1974 to 2002.

It is evident that most of the means of transport experienced an upward trend in the number of goods delivered with an exception of rail. Additionally, the quantities of items transported by road registered the highest figure during the period.

At the beginning of the research, the number of items transported by road was recorded at about 70 million tons, after which, this figure increased slightly by less than 30 million tonnes in 2002. A similar trend was witnessed in the quantities of goods delivered by water, which climbed gradually to over 60 million tons at the end of research.

With regard to the number of goods transported by pipeline, it was recorded at about 5 million tonnes in 1974. There was a significant increase in this figure, it was about 20 millions in 2002. On the other hand, the quantities of items delivered by rail stayed unchanged, approximately 40 million tons.
