Some organisations believe that their employees should dress smartly. Others value quality of work above appearance.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

While some organisations think that dressing smartly is important in the workplace, there are also others which appreciate how their employees work than how they dress. In my opinion, I agree that people should dress formally at work.

On the one hand, many people argues that employees should be free to choose what they would like to wear. This freedom will make they feel more comfortable and confident as they can be who they are at work, and such a comfortable environment is what engages the workers with their companies. Sometimes wearing a colourful or uniquely designed costume can also be an inspiration, especially for people working in the creative industries like music, publishing, architecture, etc to work more effectively.

On the other hand, there is a strong argument that the way employees dress also influence their work quality. First, a neat and formal look will create an impression of professionality to the customers of company, which is undeniably a key to the success for salespeople, lawyers, or financial consultants. Secondly, dressing smartly can also modify employees' working attitude. While wearing casual clothes can make people feel too comfortable as if they are at home and fail to take proper care of their work, a formal suit always remind the employees that they are in a professional workplace and therefore focus more on what they need to do.

In conclusion, I believe that people should dress smartly at work, not only to have a professional appearance, but also improve their work results.

While some organisations think that dressing smartly is important in the workplace, there are also others which appreciate how their employees work than how they dress. In my opinion, I agree that people should dress formally at work.

On the one hand, many people argues argue that employees should be free to choose what they would like to wear. This freedom will make they feel more comfortable and confident as they can be who they are at work, and such a comfortable environment is what engages the workers with their companies. Sometimes wearing a colourful or uniquely designed costume can also be an inspiration, especially for people working in the creative industries like music, publishing, architecture, etc (informal) to work more effectively.
