Today, the high sales of popular consumer goods reflect the power of advertising and not the real needs of the society in which they are sold. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

On the threshold of the 21st century, there are some people who claimed that the advertising promotes products, which boosts the sales of good and encourages customers to by products unnessarily. Personally speaking, I agree with this statement because of two following reasons.

First and foremost, advertising agencies tend to advertise their products based on analytic psychology such as the effects of colours on brain or the impacts of images on emotion. That is the reason why beautiful things can draw people’ attention and why companies advertises by impressive images and videos. Consequently, customers will buy products due to their beauty although they are unnecessary. Take my sister as an example, she is always buying lipsticks which are popular and beautiful despite she has the number of lipsticks at home.

Secondly, celebrity endorsement by famous TV stars is commonly used by companies to encourage customers to trust and buy their products. In this day and age, influencers play an important role in youngster’s life. Many people aged 12 to 25 buy something only because their idols appear at products’ advertising. In Britain, according to a survey, companies which use a form of brand or advertising campaign that involves a well known person using their fame to help promote a product or service have significantly higher sales than the other companies.

In conclusion, power of advertisements is the major incentive for the market growth of buying popular consumer products and necessary needs of buyers is not very important because of two aforementioned reasons, there is no doubt of this.
