Topic: Some people believe that the range of technology available to individuals today is increasing the gap between rich people and poor people. Others say that it is having the opposite effect. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
The big leap in technological advances has played a role in changing living standards in overall society. While I agree with some statement that technological inventions do good to the rich, I am more convinced of its tremendous benefits offered to the poor to help bridge the social gap.
On one hand, technology may contribute to the rapid increase in the wealth of many rich individuals or businesses. The advent of sophisticated machinery, especially artificial intelligence, undoubtedly assure the boosting work productivity with less human workforce. The lower costs involved in production process translate into higher profitability business owners receive, which dramatically increase their wealth. Moreover, thanks to the worldwide viral effect of the Internet, many celebrities may improve their public appeal just at the touch of a button. Famous singers such as Justin Bieber have chance to gain access to more access through video postings on Youtube, which promises them increasing success.
Although technologies tend to help rich people and organizations to thrive, I firmly believe that they even benefit the disadvantaged more. Many small business owners with limited investment capital find social networking sites such as Facebook valuable to advertise their products just by posting images or livestreaming their products or services. This online trading proves to be an effective and popular trend to get connected to the potential customers and raise their profitability. In addition, the Internet also open up education opportunities for everyone, especially low-income people. With only modest internet fee, many people can improve their skills such as command of language or soft skills, improving their promotion prospect. One more argument I have in favor of technology is the aid the rich countries or individuals has provided the poor ones so far. Many poor countries in Africa, for instance, have received much financial aid from the rich countries or organizations thanks to the worldwide online connection enabled by the Internet. This helps narrow the gap between the rich and the poor on both regional and global scale.
In conclusion, while technological advances can result in increasing amount of fortune among rich individuals, I am inclined to believe that they also help the poor overcome their poverty and narrow the gap between them and the rich.
