The picture illustrates information about how many people used the three major British airports in a 5-year period from 1998 to 2003.

Overall, it can be clearly seen from the picture that the number of these airports’ users both witnessed upward trends. In addition, Gatwick was the most popular airport, while the bottom of the list was Stansted over the period.

Regarding Gatwick, starting at 36.5 million, the number of travellers using this airport increased significantly every year, reached a peak at 69.3 million in 2003, which was far larger than Heathrow and Stansted counterparts. There was a similar trend in the number of Stansted’ visitors. The figure was 17.3 million in 1998, which was much lower than those of others, then went up significantly to 43.3 million in 2002, and remained stable in 2003.

The number of people traveling by Heathrow airport witnessed considerable growth from 27.2 million in 2000 to 48.2 million in 2000. That means Heathrow was the most popular airport in British in 2000. However, despite plunging to 33.2 million in 2002, the figure then recovered to 45.6 million in 2003, which was a bit more than that of Stansted.
