WRITING TASK 1

The chart below shows the total number of minutes (in billions) of telephone calls In the UK, divided into three categories, from 1995 & 2002.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The bar chart compares three types of telephone calls used by UK residents by the number of minutes/by total calling time/ by calls duration over the period of 8 years.

It is clear that local calls were the most common in Britain, second and third are national and international calls and calls on mobiles respectively.  Despite the highest minutes, the number of minutes spent on local calls did not change between 1995 and 2002;on the other hand/however, there was a dramatic increase in the number of remaining categories.

UK resident spent 90 billion minutes for local calls, which is the highest figure show on the chart. By contrast, the amount of duration on local calls was three seconds minutes more than that of national and international one and twice minutes more than that of mobiles one with 60, 45 minutes for the highest point in each respectively.

Over the period of 8 year, the number of minutes on national and international calls gradually rise from the beginning at around 38 billion minutes to 60 billion minutes at the end of the period. Besides, it is noticeable that mobiles also quickly went up to 40 billion minutes from 1995 to 2002.
