Topic: Life is better than it was 100 years old. To what extent, do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Life has been changing nonstop that many people think that now it has better quality than 100 years old. Personally, I only agree in part with this statement for the following reasons.
It is undisputable that life is much better now. Particularly, in this age of technological advancements, our way of living has changed positively. For example, thanks to attempts of scientists to do countless researches and experiments with the aid of technology, a huge number of diseases we could not find how to treat yesteryears, namely measles or leprosy, are curable in the present. Hence, the death ratio has been decreasing, and human’s life expectancy keeps lasting longer. In addition, with the advent of the Internet, human beings had a great jump in communication. Unlike our forefathers who used letters to keep in touch with each other, which took ages to be sent to right places, currently, the Internet has become a powerful tool serving users to connect to the world, via means of communication such as computers, telephones and so on.
Granted, I still believe the past had significances. Firstly, pollution was not as serious and widespread as it is now. Since in the 20th century, when urban skyscrapers and factories in industrial zones were not massively built, the air was still pure, and there was just a little garbage found on streets. Furthermore, in this era, we did not regularly get stuck in terrible traffic congestion because there were just negligible numbers of four wheelers and motorbikes used at that time. Instead, people rode own bikes or went on foot.
In conclusion, I personally believe that both of the eras bear its importance. While in the high-tech age, our living standard is increased with the appearance of technology as well as the Internet, 100 years ago, people lived a more tranquil and enjoyable life.
