Task 2: In some countries, shopping online is replacing shopping at store. Do you think it is a positive or negative development?

Recently people are increasingly doing their shopping on the Internet instead of going to stores. While this trend brings many drawbacks, I believe that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

On the one hand, online shopping possesses  some cons. To begin with, some goods can fall short of customers’ expectations since buyers cannot try or check their quality before purchasing them. Furthermore, the biggest disadvantage of online shopping is the security because there has the risk that personal information may be stolen. For instance, many frauds have happened with online shopping; therefore, people are having trust issues with using the online shopping.

However, online shopping has a large number of beneficial effects. Firstly, if purchasers do not have much time, online shopping will be a good choice for them. Being able to buy products at home without  going to stores can make it less time-consuming, as a result, travel costs can be cut down.  In addition, if people are unable to find a product, they can switch to other shopping websites; hence consumers are able to compare many different goods  in terms of prices and product’s quality at the same time. Finally, online shopping is often getting cheaper prices compared with retail stores owing to online store does not have to pay the costs of running a shop and wages to salespeople or some of the other running costs of a real business world.

In conclusion, although there are some convincing arguments for buying things directly in stores, I believe that online shopping is an innovation which has more benefits than drawbacks.
