It is sometimes argued whether or not we ought to organize popular events periodically like the football World Cup. Some people think that these competitions are necessary to ease international discord and to improve our patriotic emotions. In my opinion, I partly agree with this view.

On the one hand, international occasions bring many noticeable benefits. Firstly, the tensions among different countries can be reduced significantly. Sport events may ease the tensions and help the relations of countries to be better. A friendly football match, for instance, should take place when Vietnam and China are currently having disputes about the East Sea. Secondly, we can also express our patriotic emotions through popular events. All people may cheer together the runners of their own country on when they start the last lap at the Olympics.

On the other hand, there are some drawbacks of international sporting occasions. The most convincing argument is that racial discrimination is a social issue occurs on most of the events. Only a sentence an athlete says, could this behavior be received critism from the populations of a mainland. Another reason is that some people are blinded by thei love for their favourite teams. For example, after Brazil lost the 2014 World Cup semi-final to German, many Brazilian fans blocked and threw some things into a German car. It is clear that these activities should not happen the big sports competition.

In conclusion, while I accept popular sports events have many undeniable advantages, I believe that there are still some problems coming from these international occasions.
