Question

 

Look at the maps below showing how the town of Harborne changes from 1936 to 2007, and summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features. Make comparison where relevant.

 

The maps show some changes to a small town of Harborne which was developed for hospitality industry from 1936 to 2007.

It is clear that the town changed considerably with the introduction of tourism and some new features can be seen in the second diagram.The most notable changes are the disappearance of green areas as well as the creation of the infrastructure for recreation and housing.

Looking at the map in more details, we can see that the period from 1936 to 2007 witnessed the replacement of a north-east river by the residential area.In addition, the government offices and farm land situated in the south-west of the town were turned into museum and golf course.While the forest in the north-west was cut down, there was an appearance of road which replaced for the crooked cycle path before.

As well as the significant improvements above, there were some new developements located in the downtown.Some old shopping store such as sweet shop, butchers and flower shop were demolished to make way for mordern supermarket and traval agent.Located in the center of the downtown was a shopping center. However, the post office, bank and library near the shopping center remained as was.
