Topic: Government around the world spend too much money on treating illnesses and diseases and not enough on health education and prevention

Do you agree and disagree with this statement?

Never before had we seen such a violent struggle between humankind and diseases. Nowadays, there have been a lot of new serious illnesses that challenge every government. Hence, a huge amount of money has been invested by governments around the world on treating illness and diseases to protect their citizens. However, some people also claim that more money should be spent on health education and prevention rather than treatment. Personally, although I concede that investment on medical treatment can help protect our fellows from many serious diseases and illness, I agree that health education and prevention should be promoted as the priority of health investment.

People who are in favor of spending more money on medical treatment for illnesses and diseases often claim that it will promote the development of health care as well as the discovery of the new and advanced cure for severe health problems. For more specific,  the environmental pollution, as well as unhealthy lifestyle, nowadays have led to many new diseases and even epidemics ( H5N1, SARHs or Ebola, etc)  that require efficient medical treatment such as medicines, operation or implantation.  Moreover, the application of those medical treatments also helps people to cure totally the diseases and bring the new life to people who accidentally become the victims.

On the other hand, some people also argue that the application of medical treatment can only take place in a certain number of people due to the limitation in quantity and the high cost.  Moreover, the affection of medical cure seems to limited also as it only can adapt to one health problem at one time.  Hence, there is often a saying: “ prevention is better than cure”.  Prevention and health education should be promoted in medical investment  since they are likely to “kill two birds with one stone”.  Not only  they help people prevent the majority of health problems but also improve the health condition of our fellows. Moreover, their application is also very cheap and sometimes costs nothing because it is all about our lifestyle: eating, sleeping, exercising, etc.

In conclusion, I suppose that government should also restrain diseases by education and prevention rather than only concentrating on costly cures and hospitals to upgrade citizen’s health.
