Question

Universities should accept equal number of male and female students in every subject. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

The general opinion is that the university should be encouraged to admit students base on their gender. As far as this view, it is extremely necessary that the both male and female ones have the same number in every filed. I disagree with this opinion.

It is supposed that in the assurance of educational equality and quality, the university need to rely on evaluating the students’ actual ability rather gender when they receive a candidate. As we know every candidate will have the difference of education and knowledge backgrounds at high school and it will be the most exactly assessable that the university base on their academic transcript or result in the entrance examination. Furthermore, if the university accept students through making sure the gendered balance, they can suddenly reject a large number of suitable candidates. In summary, the admitting student has to regard the priority over student’s ability.

At the same time, there are lots of especial subject that in the university have just attracted either male or female, so it surely seems that those will not have candidates enough to open courses, if they want to ensure equal number about gender. For example, the major in nurse or pre-school teacher in some universities has been completely applied by female students. As a result, those universities have been forced to hold it despite of having no any male student. Besides, currently there are also several women’s universities opened for girl students around the world. This is extremely opposite compering with the opinion needing to have the gender balance in university education.

In conclusion, the university should pay attention for the student’s ability to consider accepting them instead of focusing on gender.
