The diagram describes how the Australian Bureau of Meteorology collects the very latest information on the weather in order to create trustworthy forecasts. In general, the data moves through various stages to form complete news.

There are three machines which can supply incoming information: satellites, radars and drifting buoys. The data from the first two ones is analyzed into satellite photos and radar screens respectively; whilst synoptic charts are produced by using the information from all of these equipment. Meteorologists see how the winds blow or how the flows of water work and forecast the weather.

In the preparing the broadcast stage, all analyzed data comes into computers to be calculated and ordered before mass media declare a report to the public. TV newsreaders present and show the maps while broadcasters give more details about the weather to the listeners. Besides, computers send recorded announcements to home telephones to make sure that residents know the weather in case they missed the news.
