Although there are many obstacles to living in urban areas, the decision of people to make their ways towards cities in order to seek jobs has been an increasingly popular trend. Life in city does have its drawbacks; however, governments can take steps to improve living conditions in this area.

While the global urban population is expected to grow every year, several difficulties can be anticipated for living in the city. The main issue is the decline in housing affordability. This is due to the fact that while some people do not manage to find work, housing in city is still much more expensive compared to rural areas, and the cost of living is higher as well. Life in city can also be extremely stressful as there are problems like traffic congestion and crime. In particular, it will be difficult for many people to find emotional and financial support since urban residents sometimes lack sense of community and do not even know their neighbors.

There are several actions that governments could take to solve the problems described above. The first solution would be increasing public expenditure on social housing provision. This could make houses become more affordable for people on low incomes and reduce variety of health problems linked to poor housing conditions. A second measure would be for governments to provide an efficient transportation system, upgrade infrastructures and encourage people to use public transportation. This could result in improving the local environment, reducing the constant congestion as well as the noise levels.

In conclusion, various measures can be taken to tackle the problems that are certain to arise in city life in order to improve the quality of urban residents’ life.
