Task 2:

Smokers can cause themselves serious health problems. The choice to smoke is made freely and with knowledge of dangers.
Smokers should therefore expect to pay more for medical treatment than non-smokers.

To what extent do you agree with this statement?

These days, the rate of smokers seems to rapidly increase with the awareness of the dangers. Thus, there is a dispute that these people ought to think of spending more money to cure diseases than non-smokes. From my point of view, I do not absolutely agree with this standpoint.

Of course, using cigarettes certainly leads to higher payment for medical treatment. As we know, cigarettes contain dangerous toxicants such as nicotine, which gradually does us harmful and causes bad problems about teeth and breath, or even fatal diseases such as lung cancer. Therefore, there is no doubt that smokers have to go to hospital and, hence, spend a lot of money.

On the other hand, apart from smoking, there are still many factors forcing us to pay more for medical spending. In fact, we are living in such a busy and complicated life, accordingly, no matter who we are, smoker or non-smoker, we are easily taken ill and need doctors’ help. For instance, pressure, air pollution, natural disasters, or even depraved cultural products may result in our psychological tension and serious sickness. Subsequently, that is a vary of causes that relate to the payment for curing diseases.

In conclusion, it is clear that whereas smokers will, themselves, make their health worse and worse, which wastes a great deal of money, other people are also being badly affected by other factors above. However, should we know to keep away from these negative influences, we can have a healthy and meaningful life.
