We are living in the 21^st century- the century of technology. It is true that technology is rapidly making changes in several fields. Some people predict that it would totally replace teacher in classroom. I partly disagree with the statement for the following reasons.

First of all, soft skills will hardly be taught at school. Take teamwork as an example. Each of the students would work independently on their personal computers with the stiff guidance of a programmed computer which may lead to the misunderstanding their lecture. Also, studying in such technology-driven class, they barely have face-to-face interaction with other students, let alone nourishing communication skill. Secondly, according to recent research findings, interacting with computer for a period of time is the catalyst for diseases such as short-sighted or obese. Last but not least, only experienced teachers know what materials to choose. There are thousands of online resources, but if technology devices aren’t smart enough to decide which best suits students, it would be a barrier for their studying.

On the other hand, classes equipped with modern technology devices like projector would be an ideal learning environment to ease students’ studying. Moreover, the computer would set up particular courses based on the needs of each student. The latter would merely have to learn what needed for their future major or what they want.

In conclusion, I don’t think the technology would be a substitute for a real teacher in near future. My recommendation is that students should be taught by a teacher with the help of technology; therefore, they can study and develop basic social skills in a modern academic environment.
