The line graph illustrates the birth rates in two different nations over the period of 80 years.

Overall, there is a decrease in the birth rates in both China and the US from 1920 to 2000. Although the two trends were similar in terms of a general decline, it is apparent that the birth rate in the United States was higher than that of China in most years.

In the year 1920, the birth proportion in the US accounted for over 12%, 2% higher than that of China. During the next 15 years, the fertility rates in the US and China saw a variation before increasing to 15% and 13% respectively. However, From 1935 to 1950, there was a significant downtrend to under 5% in the China and US birth rates, but later rose dramatically to reach a peak of exactly 20% and 15% respectively in the 1950s.

Five years later, a considerable fall of about 12% was witnessed in the fertility percentage of China while the figure for the US stood at below 15%. Similarly, the birth rate of China declined rapidly by over 10% before hiting a low of over 2%, half of that of the US between 1955 and 2000.
