The graph illustrates changes of China and the USA in terms of the birth rates from 1920 to 2000.

Overall, both  countries have a fluctuation over a 80-year period  and the birth rate in the USA in most years was higher than that in China.

Looking first at the USA, we can see a mild fluctuation in the birth rates between 1920-1940, with the percentage hovering around 11-13% mark. Before falling a low point of 5% in 1945, the figure for the USA increased remarkably to exactly 15%, which was the highest point during the period of 80 years. In the following years, the US birth rate declined gradually to approximately 7% in 2000.

A similar pattern was repeated in China. Although it starts the year with a lower birth rate, the percentage of the Chinese birth rate overtook that of Americans to reach a peak of 20%.  After that, there was a dip to around 7% in 1955. In the remaining time, the birth rate dropped constantly before going down to about 2%, lower than The Americans birth rate in 2000.
