The graph below compares changes in the birth rates of China and the USA between 1920 – 2000.

Summaries the infomation by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The line graph illustrates the proportion of birth rates in China and the USA over a period of 80 years from 1920 to 2000. Overall, the initial impression is that both countries witnessed a fluctuation at the first of the period before entering a decline. It can also be seen that the percentage of birth rate in china fell more substantially.
In 1920, the birth rate in China was almost 11%. This was followed by that in the USA at around 10%. In the next 15 years, there was a same pattern in both countries, with their figures fluctuating before experiencing a dramatic decrease to 7% and 5% respectively in 1945, which were their lowest percentage over the period given.

Through the next 10 years, both China and the USA saw a sharp growth in their birth rate, with the former reaching its peak of 20% and the latter peaking at 14% in 1955. During the last final 45 years of the shown period, while fewer infants were born in China, with its figure declining considerably before hitting the trough of 3%, that of the USA showed a downward trend to the same figure as its 1955 in 2000
