These days, more fathers stay at home and take care of their children while mothers go out to work.

What could be the reasons for this?

Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

In contemporary life, there is an increasing number of working women whose husbands staying at home doing housework and childcare. This happens due to gender equality changing and female potential abilities. Personally, I believe this is a positive trend as it would promote a lasting change in gender norms and family relationships.

The shift in gender notion and women’s educational attainment can explain this development. Attitude towards gender equality has evolved, which encourages employers to provide equal job opportunities for both men and women.  In addition, women have been increasingly advanced at work and education while their husbands are struggling to find jobs or earn less money. Therefore, they are highly regarded in their workplace and bear more of the breadwinner identity while these men opt to stay at home, which would help to reduce the economic burden such as the high cost of healthcare.

I believe this trend is beneficial in some ways. On the societal level, this promotes a lasting change in gender norms. Many workplaces still expect men to live up to the ideal norm, putting work first and acting as they have no caregiving responsibilities. Hence, such a change would evolve employers’ attitudes about gender roles and contribute to the eradication of this traditional notion, fostering an equal society. From a personal perspective, moving away from the breadwinner responsibility and bearing more of the demand at home would be more meaningful for some working fathers as they can stay closer to their children, which in turn cement family relationships and happiness.

in conclusion, the transition to full-time parenthood of men and working women can be rooted in changing attitudes towards gender equality and women’s advancement. I believe this is a positive development as it could lead to a long-term change in traditional norms about gender roles and society of harmonious relationships.
