It is true that the unhealthy habits and modern lifestyles of urban citizens in most the industrialized countries entail a worldwide obese population. With a view to resolving the consequences of this issue, both the government and individuals should join hands and take measures.

There are several causes leading to the rapid increase of obesity over the world. Firstly, an overweight condition stems from people’s daily eating habits when there is an energy imbalance between calories consumed and calories expended. Besides, many individuals get used to guzzling and overeating without taking notice of the food they consumed as well as skipping clean eating diets. For example, according to a survey on the USA news channel, most teenagers who are obese have a tendency to eat uncontrollably and consume fast foods or sweets containing high calories. Secondly, some experts suppose that the increasingly sedentary nature of many forms of work, changing modes of transportation, and not participating in physical exercises of modern citizens result in a lazy and inactive urban lifestyle which is the direct reason for obesity. To exemplify, few Vietnamese staff in workplaces said that they always have to sit while doing tasks combined with going to work by bus so they almost have no time for doing exercises.

Now humans are facing severe effects of these lifestyles and it is essential for our community to overcome this long-term challenge. Many dangerous illnesses are rising more and more like stroke, diabetes,...and even death. To illustrate, various overweight adults in Mexico underwent terrible consequences of diabetes when consuming too many sweetened beverages like Coke instead of water on a daily basis. Hence, individuals’ responsibility is to control their own eating diets, limit intake from total fats and sugars and promote the consumption of fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, or nuts as well as spend time engaging in physical activity more. In the social aspect, governments should impose a tax on sugary drinks and make healthier dietary choices available and accessible to citizens. Moreover, the food industry should promote fresh and healthy diets rather than produce fat, sugar, and salt content and processed foods.

In conclusion, obesity is becoming a human being's social problem and doing harm to people’s health in the long run, so both government and individuals need to shoulder the responsibility to reduce the risk of obesity.
