The bar chart illustrates the rise in population of Japan, while the table represents the proportion of people who are aged over 65 from 1950 to 2055

Overall, it can be seen from the graph that the number of persons in Japan has fluctuated from 1950 to 2055 and the old people have experienced an upward trend during the period shown. 

Regarding the bar chart, the population of Japan was only 84.1 million at the beginning of the period. In the next following years, the population kept on increasing and reached the peak of 127.8 million in 2010. From 2010 to 2055, Japan’s population is predicted to drop sharply and the population would be only 89.9 million in 2055, which is almost the same as it was in 1950.

As can be seen from the table, the ratio of people aged 65 and over in 1950 was only 4.1 million which accounted for less than 5% of the total population. During the following 55 years, the older increased considerably (20% overall) and this data would grow significantly to over 40% for 36.5 million people in the total population in 2055.
