The line graph illustrates the amount of passengers railway journeys was made in Britain from 1950 to the may of 2004.

Overall, it can be clearly seen that the number of passenger in all the three main ways of transport showed an upward trend, especially in the amount of passengers using London underground.

Looking into details , the most noticeable point was the 1 billion commuters which made by national rail network in 1950. Also at that time, London underground was carrying about approximately 750 million journeys. In the following  30 years, the number of passengers using fell into its lowest lever by decresing more than 250 million commuters compared to 600 million on London underground. Throughout the rest of the period, both nation rail and London underground shared a similar increasing trend at around 1 billion. The figures in national rail network  soared to nearly 1,1 billion passengers , on the other hand, London underground ended up at 1 about 1 billion. During the whole period, the number of light rail and metro systems fluctuated slightly then ended up at reaching the peak of more than 100 million commuters.
