Recently, the advent and popularity of computer has led to changes in teaching and learning around the world, which engenders public opposing ideas of whether the drawbacks of this growing tendency would outweigh the benefits. From my personal perspective, I certainly disagree with the given statement.
One the one hand, the computers have become a vital source of information due to its speed and convenience. With the widespread presence of the Internet, people with search tools such as Google and Wikipedia, are able to access to the huge storage of knowledge in just a few clicks. Therefore, children will be provided with a potential platform for self-study. Furthermore, as the strong development of the didactic as well as recreational applications, teachers are allowed to maintain the interest of the students by delivering the complicating lectures visually in the most enjoyable way. For instance, students these days are prone to watch the life-cycle of a butterfly in only few minutes with only a projector and a laptop connected to the internet, which the traditional lectures cannot do.
On the other hand, abusing the available resources of online information might cause some certain issues such as plagiarism. This act may lead to difficulties in evaluating student’s works. Eventually, plagiarist have to face disciplinary action such as suspension or expulsion. In addition, the explosion of computer’s young users can be a factor leading to the rise of short-sighted patients among adolescence. To help reduce this, it is advisable for parents to manage the their children’s computer usage and educate them about the purposes of the internet.
In conclusion, despite a few beneficial aspects of using computers as the didactic tools in education, this tendency has some problems in terms of health and children’s usage managing. However, I believe these issues can be solved as the endless effort of teachers and parents to promote the quality of future’s education.
